Welcome to Shoppe Small— a unique gift shop highlighting local artisans. Find art, clothing, home decor and more; all made by artisans from around the county. Their main mission is to collaborate and help promote local artists and vendors!

The Shoppe Small Story

Susan Sweemer Cox never imagined herself as a storefront business owner. She created her painting business, Shades of Chic, a decade ago because it allowed for her to stay home with her special needs child and paint kitchen cabinets in her garage. Eventually, Susan moved her business to the backspace of her current storefront.

At first, Susan shared the space with Iron Rose Mercantile. In April, 2023, Iron Rose Mercantile moved out of the storefront and into a larger building located in Downtown Middletown. Susan took this opportunity to make the entire building her own boutique, Shoppe Small.

Partnering with Local Vendors

Susan still has her popular painting business, Shades of Chic, in the backspace of the building, but in the front, she has products from 15 local vendors (and counting!). She is passionate about supporting local businesses and makes it her mission to collaborate with other businesses to cross promote.

Vendors range from hand-painted hats, homemade candles, tumblers, and even a plant business owned by a 7-year old boy! As a business owner herself, Susan has a heart for watching other local businesses succeed.

DIY Workshops

Susan also enjoys partnering with local businesses to bring DIY workshops and classes to her "Workshoppe" space. Workshops range from charcuterie 101, fairy gardens, mason jars, and sign-making classes.
